Citizen's $2,995 Red-Dial AQ4100-65X Is Limited to 350 Units — and Only Available in the US
Citizen has launched the AQ4100-65X, a $2,995 limited edition from its flagship The Citizen line, available exclusively through the Citizen US website with just 350 units made worldwide. The watch's defining feature is a deep burgundy-red dial hand-crafted from Tosa Tengujoshi washi paper — a traditional Japanese material so thin it lets light pass through to the Eco-Drive solar cells underneath. Each dial is unique, formed by the paper's natural fiber pattern.
The craft
Tosa Tengujoshi is produced in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, and is among the thinnest washi papers made. Citizen uses it here not just for aesthetics — its light-transmitting properties are what make the Eco-Drive movement viable beneath it. The dial is finished with gold-tone accents and Citizen's eagle logo. No two watches look exactly alike.
The case measures 38.3mm across and is built from Super Titanium — Citizen's hardened titanium alloy — with a Duratect Platinum coating that resists scratches and gives the metal a bright silver finish. A titanium bracelet, spherical sapphire crystal, and 100-meter water resistance round out the build.

The movement
Inside sits the Caliber A060, Citizen's high-precision Eco-Drive quartz movement rated at ±5 seconds per year. It includes a perpetual calendar that updates at exactly midnight, an automatic hand-correction function after impacts, and an 18-month power reserve when fully charged and stored in complete darkness — per Gizmochina, that reserve holds even without any light exposure.

Who can actually buy one
Right now: US customers only, through Citizen's website. No UK retailer, no international distributor, and no regional variant has been announced. The 350-unit global ceiling puts this in direct competition with limited-edition offerings from Grand Seiko and Seiko Prospex in the $2,500–$3,500 bracket — both of which have wider retail distribution. If you're outside the US and want one, the grey market and platforms like Chrono24 will likely be the only route, at a premium. Citizen has not indicated whether additional markets will be added before stock runs out.
