Philips Firefly: Travel-Ready Shaver with Built-In Flashlight and 40-Day Battery Life

Philips has introduced the compact electric shaver Firefly, designed for those who spend more time traveling than at home. The device weighs only 119 g — about 42% lighter than a modern smartphone, so it can easily fit even in a jacket pocket.

Design and unconventional features

The main feature of the Firefly is a built-in flashlight at the bottom of the body. Why it’s there is an open question, but it won't hurt in a night train or camping situation. The magnetic lid of the device is also not simple: when opened, it transforms into a small stand, convenient for placement on a shelf in a hotel bathroom.

Such solutions are becoming increasingly popular in the grooming market, where manufacturers aim to add maximum mobility to devices without losing their primary functions.

Performance and shaving

Despite the toy-like dimensions, the internals are quite grown-up. The manufacturer claims performance of up to 2.2 million hairs sliced per minute. Here is what else is hidden under the hood:

  • A 0.046 mm thick mesh for a clean result.
  • 3D floating head that moves in different directions and follows the contours of the face.
  • Two operating modes: regular and gentle, for different hair densities.

Thanks to the movable head, the device minimizes missed areas, which is critical for the Philips series of electric shavers that have always focused on skin comfort.

Autonomy and price

The Philips Firefly is fully water-resistant, so it can be washed under the tap. A full battery charge lasts about 40 days of use. If you forget to plug in the cable on time, there is a quick three-minute charge available for one shaving session.

The new product can already be ordered in China for 349 yuan ($49 or 2200 UAH). There is no information yet on an international release.
