Apple HomePod Mini will support Lossless and Spatial Audio, the latest in audio technology
Apple's HomePod and HomePod Mini smart speakers will finally get support for the proprietary Spatial and Lossless audio formats, two important additions that are already part of the feature set of some iPhones and AirPods.
HomePods and iOS 15 beta firmware add options for Spatial and Lossless audio. And while there are a limited number of participants in the beta testing, even among them the new options are not displayed to everyone.
While the gg editorial team does not yet have a specific date when Spatial and Lossless audio will become more widely available to regular HomePods users, it looks like Apple is preparing these options for the official iOS 15 release.
The addition of Spatial and Lossless audio options to HomePod smart speakers is not the first time Apple has integrated these technologies. Lossless and Spatial audio options are present in the Apple Music app on iPhone and Android devices, and as mentioned above, these formats are compatible with some AirPods models.
Eventually, these features should be a great addition to Apple HomePod devices. Spatial-audio creates three-dimensional surround sound, which is good for speakers, and Lossless audio will help maintain high sound quality, which is generally useful for small-sized speakers.
