A new report says LG Display is doubling its OLED capacity and plans to supply OLED panels for the "next generation iPad."

On the morning of August 18 Beijing time, it was reported that LG is strengthening its partnership with Apple, its major customer, as its subsidiaries supply more parts to Apple. LG Display is expanding production of small and medium-sized organic light-emitting dipoles (OLEDs) for Apple's smart devices in line with a plan... LG declined to comment on customer-related issues. But sources say that the small display panels produced by the company will be used for Apple's next-generation iPads and iPhones as the company opts for OLED screens for more and more devices.

It was previously reported that LG plans to expand its OLED capacity by reinvesting in its E6-3 production line. In addition, numerous rumors about Apple's upcoming OLED tablet have been circulating online. In particular, it has been reported that the 10.9-inch iPad Air may benefit from improved display technology.

Apple recently introduced mini-LED display in its iPad Pro M1 (2021), one of the best iPads in recent times. However, it looks like Apple isn't going to stick with mini-LED technology for long, or more likely, Apple plans to sell iPads with both display technologies, using OLED to differentiate the more premium members of the lineup.
