Apple has appealed the case against Corellium - 2 weeks after an amicable settlement
Apple has appealed another lawsuit against Corellium, after the company settled one last week.
Apple has filed several lawsuits against the security research company over allegations that its iOS virtualization software infringes copyrights. Apple has now appealed a ruling in Corellium's favor last year.
The news came as a surprise, given that last week the two companies settled a major lawsuit over very similar issues. While the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, Corellium continues to sell its iOS virtualization software.
While the media is trying to make the case that the move has something to do with Apple's recent CSAM detection efforts, Apple is actively encouraging independent security researchers in the community to verify their security and privacy claims about their system, and Corellium has happily accepted the call as part of its new Open Security Initiative.
Earlier this week, the company said it welcomed Apple's "commitment to holding third-party researchers accountable" and said its platform was "unique in supporting researchers in this effort." However, Corellium CEO Amanda Gorton said on the recent appeal that Apple cannot "pretend to be accountable to the security research community while trying to make that research illegal."
