Twitter begins testing new feature to report inaccurate tweets in some countries

The social network Twitter announced today that it is testing a feature that allows users to report tweets that appear to be untrue. For now, the feature will be available to some users in the US, South Korea and Australia.

Twitter says the plans "start small." Users in those countries will be able to find the "This is misleading" flag after clicking the Report Tweet button. The company states that "it cannot take action and respond to every message as part of the experiment, but your input will help us identify trends so that we can improve the speed and scope of our broader misinformation efforts."

This feature is likely the first step from another feature that researcher Jane Manchun Wong discovered a few months ago. At the time, Wong said Twitter was working on three different misinformation warning tags.

When reporting a tweet, users in the US, South Korea and Australia will choose from the options "This is misleading" as well as "I am not interested in this tweet", "This is suspicious or spammy", "The tweet is offensive or harmful" and "The author expresses intentions to harm himself or to commit suicide".
