American scientists have come much closer to creating an artificial sun. Specialists have achieved record energy output in the course of thermonuclear reaction.

It was reported in the National Laser Thermonuclear Reaction Complex of the United States, on the territory of which 192 lasers focused in one point were placed. In the new experiment scientists managed to produce 25 times more energy than in the previous attempt.

During the reaction 1.3 mJ of energy was released. Scientists have been working toward this goal for ten years. Now they intend to achieve a self-sustaining fusion reaction.

The fuel used for the experiment was hydrogen isotopes deuterium and tritium. The pellet was a few millimeters in diameter. After ignition at a temperature of over 3 million degrees, the fuel was transformed into plasma and the shock wave compressed it into a point with a diameter equal to the diameter of a human hair.
