Like desktops: Android 12 will allow you to open multiple Google Chrome windows

Chrome tabs can be organized in different ways depending on your platform. On the desktop, you can group your tabs into one or more windows, which you can then change using your OS window manager.

On Android, you can also group tabs together, but you can't open multiple instances of Chrome like you can on the desktop. However, that will change with the release of Android 12 and a new version of Google Chrome. Google is working to add support for multiple instances and a window manager to Chrome for Android.

Several code changes labeled "multi-instance" have been introduced in Chromium Gerrit over the past few weeks. These code changes add a "new window" button to the Google Chrome context menu when the device goes into split screen mode. Clicking the "new window" button opens a new Chrome instance on the other half of the screen.

When you open a second Chrome instance, the context menu offers a "Manage Windows" button that displays all active windows, the window focus, the name of the active tab in each window, and the number of tabs open in each window. Up to 5 windows can be opened in total, and there is no limit to the number of tabs open in each window. Finally, the state of each instance is stored in Google Chrome's general settings, allowing the windows to be saved on reboot.
