Chinese users have found a way to boost the performance of older Apple smartphones.

A few years ago, Apple found itself at the center of a scandal over the deliberate underestimation of CPU frequencies. The company explained its actions by its desire to improve battery life. To put it mildly, the initiative was not very warmly welcomed.

France fined Cupertino company for $25 million, and Apple stopped slowing down old smartphones sold in the country. Chinese users have discovered that if you change the region to France in the iPhone's settings, the device's performance will improve.

In the case of newer models, the increase is almost imperceptible. But if you use older smartphones, the difference is quite noticeable. In particular, the CPU performance in the iPhone 7 increases by about 10%. The same scheme works on Apple tablets as well.

Recall that China did not penalize the US company. Instead, Apple had to reduce the cost of battery replacement and add additional battery parameters to the operating system, through which users can track battery health.
