In June, video hosting YouTube announced that it was going to introduce a picture-in-picture feature to iOS. Now it looks like the long-awaited feature is finally available, though perhaps only for a limited time and only for YouTube Premium subscribers. Here's how to activate it.

If you're a YouTube Premium subscriber, open a web browser and go to www.youtube.com/new. Scroll down to Picture-in-picture on iOS and click Try it out. You will be prompted to log in to your account.

Then, while you're watching a video on YouTube, simply navigate away from the app with the home button or swipe up, and the picture-in-picture will start automatically. If you lock your phone screen while watching, the video will be paused, but it can be resumed using the media controls on the lock screen.

YouTube says the feature is "available until October 31," and there's no idea what happens after that date. The editorial gg  hopes that's when YouTube - as promised in June - will make the feature available to all users, not just paying users.
