Updated Google Search will generate and display "more readable" page titles

The latest improvement to Google Search is a "new header generation system for web pages" that better describes the essence of the result.

Google wants the main part of the search result - between the link and the summary - to be "more readable and accessible". Testing of the new system introduced last week has shown that such results are "better perceived by users," the company claims.

With the previous approach, page titles could change depending on the search query users entered. The new system creates "titles that work better for documents as a whole." Thus, different page titles will "usually" no longer occur.

Another aspect of this updated page title system is Google's emphasis on the text that "people can see when they get to a web page." Other page text and "text in links pointing to pages" can also be taken into account.

When a search encounters a "very long title," Google will only use the "most relevant part" and cut off the "less useful parts." The company can also show website titles next to page titles if it deems it useful.

For website owners, Google will soon release updated guidance.
