Xiaomi will slow down charging in smartphones when replacing the battery
Xiaomi has decided to go the way of Apple and intends to fight the installation of third-party batteries in its smartphones.
What is known?
Enthusiasts at XDA Developers dug into the new version of Mi Security software. They found that Xiaomi has expanded the functionality of the app. It will now provide a notification if the smartphone is missing a branded battery.
Mi Security v5.6.0 will only notify users about the need to replace the battery at authorized services. Software is also reminded that using a third-party battery can be detrimental to the device. In smartphones with "unauthorized" batteries, Xiaomi will cut the charging speed.
Who will be affected?
For now, the innovation is only relevant to Chinese users of the Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro models. Whether the company will change its battery replacement policy in other countries is unknown.
