Xiaomi will take camera quality of cheap smartphones to the next level
Xiaomi recently announced a budget model Redmi 10, which at a price of $ 179 for the basic version became the world's cheapest smartphone with 50-megapixel main camera. With the new 50 MP sensors, the company from the Celestial Empire intends to bring to a new level of quality cameras in budget solutions.
A few years ago Xiaomi began to actively pay attention to the cameras of flagship smartphones, and then moved to more affordable models. For example, the Redmi Note 8 Pro was the world's first phone with a 64-megapixel module, while the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro debuted a 108-megapixel image sensor. The company intends to ditch Sony's 64MP sensor in favor of the new 50MP sensors, according to Chinese network informant Digital Chat Station.
The Redmi 10 uses Samsung's ISOCELL JN1 1/1.26" optical format image sensor with 0.64µm pixels. In future low-cost smartphones, the company intends to use Sony's IMX766 sensor of 1/1.5" optical format with 1µm pixels. Such a sensor is installed in a number of smartphones in different price segments. For example, in OnePlus 9 Pro for €999 and OnePlus Nord 2 for €399.
The mass transition of Xiaomi models to 50-megapixel image sensors is planned for 2022. Which smartphones will be able to boast of the updated camera is not specified yet.
