Recently, smartphone manufacturers have been trying to somehow diversify the design of their models by coming up with original camera design, a cutout for the front panel, or different colors. Not lags behind fashion trends and Xiaomi.

What have they come up with?

Chinese insider Digital Chat Station reports that Xiaomi is testing a device with photochromic or electrochromic back panel, which means it will be able to change its color with some exposure.

So, a photochromic panel is used in smartphone Vivo S10 (on photo). Its color changes from orange to blue under direct sunlight, i.e. the process takes place under exposure to ultraviolet rays.

On the other hand there is an OPPO Reno6 Pro+ Detective Conan Edition with electrochromic back panel. It changes color from silver to red and back when voltage is passed through the glass.

It is not yet known which of these technologies Xiaomi will choose. It's also unclear what kind of phone will get these materials and whether it will be a concept or a finished device.
