Spotify has announced that it is rolling out its long-awaited Blend feature for creating shared playlists to all users. The feature went live as a beta for a small percentage of Spotify users earlier this year, and is now rolling out to all subscribers to the service.

What is Blend

In a blog post, Spotify explained that Blend is a way for "two users to combine their music tastes into one shared playlist created specifically for them". After starting beta testing the feature earlier this summer, Spotify has made several improvements, including a new "taste match score" feature that lets you see your preferences compared to your friends' preferences.

You can find the Blend option in the Spotify app right now and start creating shared playlists. You may need to update the app to the latest version.

How to use Blend

Spotify explains the procedure:

  • Tap "Create Blend" in the "Made for You" hub on your mobile device.
  • Then click "Invite" to select a friend to join your playlist and notify them with an appropriate message.
  • Once your friend agrees, Spotify will create a cover and tracklist for the two of you with songs that combine your preferences and tastes.
  • Share the results of Blend on social media by clicking "Share this story" at the bottom of the data story screen.

While Blend is available to all Spotify subscribers, premium users will get an added benefit. According to Spotify, premium subscribers can see additional data about the preferences that contributed to each song in the playlist.
