Philips Hue lighting can now sync directly with Spotify
Starting today, you'll be able to link your Philips Hue smart lights to your Spotify account.
Until now, you could make your Hue lights "dance" to the music you're listening to with the Hue Sync feature, which can pick up whatever you're listening to and translate it into a lighting scenario. However, the new feature promises deeper integration and a "uniquely immersive" experience.
After linking accounts, the Philips Hue app will extract metadata from the song being played through Spotify, regardless of device. It will then use this information to create an enhanced lighting script that instructs your lights to not only dance to the beat of the song, but also to react according to its genre and mood.
The Spotify integration feature is rolling out globally, but is still in the early access stage. You need to go to Explore in the Philips Hue app version 4.0 and press the button in the Philips Hue + Spotify card to enable the new Sync tab.
After that, simply follow the instructions to link your Spotify account. If you want to use the new feature, please note that will only work with Hue color lighting connected to the second generation Hue Bridge (square).
