Announced 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN5 sensor with 1 micron pixels
Following 200-megapixel sensor ISOCELL HP1 , Samsung introduced an image sensor with 50-megapixel resolution (8160 x 6144 dots). The second novelty is called ISOCELL GN5.
What are the benefits?
The sensor will replace the ISOCELL GN2 model on the market. The optical format of the sensor has been reduced from 1/1.12" to 1/1.56". The main feature of Samsung ISOCELL GN5 manufacturer positions the support for auto focus Dual Pixel Pro, which responds to fast-moving objects and works well in low light conditions.
The sensor supports not only pixel aggregation, but also upscaling. Thanks to the technology of machine learning 50-megapixel image sensor is capable of delivering images of 100 megapixels. And in low light conditions, 4-in-1 binning kicks in. The output is 12.5MP photos with low digital noise.
Samsung ISOCELL GN5 can record 8K ULTRA HD video at 30 FPS. There is also support for 4K UHD, but at 240 FPS.
When to expect?
Samsung said that shipments of the new 50-megapixel sensors have already started. Therefore, the first smartphones with cameras based on Samsung ISOCELL GN5 may appear as soon as possible.
