Xiaomi raises prices on popular low-cost smartphones

Xiaomi began to raise the cost of some popular smartphones Redmi and POCO. Moreover, even the models announced last year went up in price.

What happened?

European residents are too early to worry, because the rise in price is observed only in the Indian market. There, Xiaomi raised the price of eight POCO and Redmi smartphones at once. At that, some of them were introduced more than a year ago.

The best-selling Redmi Note 10 powered by Snapdragon 678 went up in price by $20 at once. Now the version with 4GB of RAM costs $185 instead of $165, and for the modification with 6GB of RAM you have to pay $210 instead of $190.

The Redmi Note 10T (aka Redmi Note 10 5G) with Dimensity 700 processor went up in price by $15. The price hike affects the 4/64GB and 6/128GB configurations. The new price is $205 instead of $190 and $235 instead of $210 respectively.

But the Redmi Note 10 Pro, which we know as Redmi Note 10S, powered by Helio G95 chip has only gone up in price by $7 and only in the 6/128GB modification. The new price was $225.

Also the Indian representative office of the company raised the price of models Redmi 9i, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi 9 and Redmi 9 Prime for the same $7. As for POCO brand, only POCO M3 smartphone has gone up by $7 so far.

What's the reason?

This isn't the first time Xiaomi has raised the cost of smartphones in India. Earlier, the reason was tax hikes. Now the price hike is attributed to the rise in price of components amid shortages. But perhaps the company just wants to increase profits. Note that new TSMC tariffs, which can also lead to higher prices, will take effect in winter.
