A major scandal reeks: Facebook calls black men apes

The social network Facebook is once again caught up in nasty scandal over racial issues

What happened?

The hype happened because of an artificial intelligence-based algorithm and a video posted to The Daily Mail profile on June 27. It showed black men clashing with police officers, but the social network suggested "continue watching videos about primates".

Facebook officials have already apologized for the incident and called it "an unacceptable mistake".

"While we have made great strides in our AI, we know that it is not perfect, and needs constant tweaking. We apologize to anyone who may have seen these offensive recommendations", - said Facebook spokesperson Dani Lever.

Incidentally, algorithms from major companies have been caught in similar situations more than once. For example, in 2015 Google Photos tagged pictures of dark-skinned men with the tag "gorilla", and a couple of years later Google even censored the word  "gorilla" in search queries, and also partially blocked the words "chimp" and "monkey".
