Microsoft Flight Simulator Top Gun update delayed due to (un)movie release

When Paramount Pictures delayed the release of Top Gun: Maverick, it caused "ripples in the water" that affected the studio's other releases as well. Now those waves have reached the gaming world, so Microsoft Flight Simulator's Top Gun-themed expansion has also been delayed.

Developer Asobo Studio announced the delay in a blog post on the Microsoft Flight Simulator website. As a result of the delay, the game's expansion will be released at the same time as the blockbuster premiere, namely on (or around) May 27, 2022.

The expansion was originally scheduled for release this fall, to coincide with the movie's previously scheduled U.S. Thanksgiving release. Paramount postponed the film's release due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the spread of the Delta strain.
