Smartphones will be without Samsung's 576-megapixel sensor

Samsung at the SEMI European Summit event published timeline for the development of image sensors for cameras. A senior vice president confirmed that the manufacturer will release a 576-megapixel sensor by 2025, but not for smartphones.

The future sensor is being built primarily for cars. We may also see a 576-megapixel image sensor in medical equipment and drones.

The Suwon-based company plans to expand the use of the sensor. Before the release of 576-MP sensor in 2025, Samsung wants to introduce several more modest sensors. They will be focused on copters, drones and IoT devices.
