Samsung patents new Galaxy Buds headphones with waterproof design

Samsung seems to have seen something interesting in the concept of headphones that allow you to shower or swim in the pool without taking your eyes off your favorite music or podcasts. According to resource LetGoDigital, the South Korean tech giant has patented a new waterproof design for its TWS headphones Galaxy Buds that will allow them to be used underwater.

What's in the patent

The patent describes and demonstrates a neck strap that connects two real wireless headphones. The earbuds themselves have several built-in microphones, sensors, and a two-way speaker. Like the Galaxy Buds Plus, there are touch controls as well.

The interesting thing lies in the aforementioned neck strap, which is presented in the form of a hollow flexible tube and turns regular headphones into waterproof ones. The nice thing about this design is that it allows for wireless communication. In other words, it opens up the possibility of taking real-time measurements such as calories, momentum, speed and more.

What it's for

It's not entirely clear what target audience Samsung is counting on. If we're talking about average users Galaxy Buds, the number who regularly go to the pool is probably significantly lower than those who don't. Washing your head with shampoo in the shower without taking your headphones off seems like a strange idea. And when it comes to training professional swimmers, a smart watch looks like a more appealing idea than an item dangling around your neck during a swim.

In short, there are more questions than answers. On the other hand, the % of patents implemented in actual devices is probably far from the number 100.
