UN seeks global control over artificial intelligence

The UN calls on all countries to introduce control over the development and use of artificial intelligence. This was said in a statement by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.

According to her, artificial intelligence is not only useful, but also harmful. Technology can not only create, but also destroy, and we are talking about human destinies. It is unclear when and to what extent technology will reach the point where AI can make its own decisions.

Bachelet cited data from a study conducted by the UN Commission on Human Rights, which showed that artificial intelligence algorithms are already focused on assessing people and their social status. This, according to Bachelet, is unacceptable.

AI is a tool that should remain within the goals of its creation and not become an end in itself and discriminate against human rights, which is often the case nowadays.

"We cannot afford to continue playing catch-up with AI - to allow its use and only then deal with the consequences of human rights violations," argues Michelle Bachelet.
