Spotify nearly overtakes Apple Podcasts as the No. 1 podcast app in the U.S

According to a new report from eMarketer, the #1 streaming music service will surpass Apple Podcasts to become the #1 podcasting service. According to the report, Spotify will end the year with 28.2 million monthly podcast listeners in the US, while Apple Podcasts will end the year with 28 million.

The report also states that Spotify's growth will continue through 2025. The streaming service is projected to grow from 28.2 million listeners to 43.6 million by the end of 2025. This is equivalent to 12.7% of the country's population.

Apple's Response

Apple has recently been taking steps to compete with Spotify in the podcasting space. The company has launched a new product Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, redesigned the app and is launching original podcasts based on content from Apple TV+.
