Apple Music now supports dynamic head tracking in Spatial Audio
According to a source, Apple has added dynamic head tracking for the Spatial Audio feature in Apple Music in the latest version of the operating system for iPhone.
In songs that support this feature, instruments and vocals will lock into a virtual "concert hall" no matter which way you turn your head. In other words, you will be able to turn one or the other ear towards the performer, although in fact the headphones will rotate in space with your head.
This feature has already been extended to video content on services like Apple TV+. It's a unique feature that can open up more creative possibilities for artists, but as with Spatial Audio tracks mixed into Dolby Atmos, you need to be thoughtful about its benefits in order for it to be beneficial.
However, this feature only applies to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max headphones. Owners of "regular" AirPods or the Beats line of headphones don't have this interesting new feature available.
Apple originally announced Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos support for Apple Music back in the spring during WWDC21, the company's annual developer conference. It also launched support for Lossless Audio. None of these features, praise Jobs, have resulted in a price increase for the music streaming service.
