The other day Lithuanian intelligence services published a report that Xiaomi can remotely detect content that should be censored and hide it in its smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer responded by releasing an official statement.

What

says "Xiaomi devices do not censor user communications - either inbound or outbound. Xiaomi has never and will never restrict or block any personal use of our smartphones by users, such as searching, calling, web browsing or using third-party communication software. Xiaomi fully respects and protects the legal rights of all users. Xiaomi adheres to the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)."

As a reminder, the report said that some standard apps connect to Xiaomi's server in Singapore, which in turn sends them a JSON file MiAdBlacklistConfig with a list of banned words and phrases. The topics subject to censorship are China's independence, liberation of Tibet, etc. A total of 449 banned word combinations were found in the database.
