Sony has unveiled its first wireless Dolby Atmos-enabled neck speaker. The company claims that the SRS-NS7 offers an "immersive home theater experience" without the need for a surround sound speaker system or headphones attached to your head.

For the full Dolby Atmos effect, you'll need a Sony Bravia XR TV and the included wireless transmitter. Once you've connected the adapter and paired it with your neck speaker via Bluetooth, you can use the 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer app to take a picture of your ear. The app will evaluate the shape of your ear and optimize the placement of the virtual Dolby Atmos speakers for you.

The company claims that the transmitter also minimizes latency for accurate audio and image matching. You can purchase the WLA-NS7 wireless transmitter separately and use it with some Sony headphones to achieve the same effect.

In addition to watching TV, users can connect the 'collar' to other devices. By connecting the SRS-NS7 to a smartphone, users can listen to 360 Reality Audio from supported music streaming services such as Deezer and Tidal. Users can also connect the device to a PC or tablet.

Sony emphasizes that the SRS-NS7 design supports multipoint connectivity, which means it is possible to connect to two devices at the same time. So, if you are listening to music from your computer and your phone receives a call, you can answer at the touch of a button and use the built-in microphone. In addition, the SRS-NS7 is IPX4 rated, which means it's splash-proof.

As for battery life, Sony says you'll get up to 12 hours of use from a single charge at medium volume and up to five hours at maximum. A 10-minute quick charge will provide 60 minutes of sound.

The SRS-NS7 neck speaker costs $300, and the TV transmitter costs $60. Pre-orders are open now, and the devices themselves will be shipped to customers on October 27.
