On the evening of October 4 Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram crashed. Users were unable to use the services for almost 6 hours, as a result of which they started switching to competitors.

In particular, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, said that the rate of audience growth exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude. While Facebook was dealing with, Telegram recorded over 70 million registrations. Due to the surge of users, the messenger started working with interruptions, but they were quickly fixed.

Durov welcomed the "refugees" and hoped that they would continue to use the instant messenger service once they had seen for themselves how far Telegram was ahead of all its competitors.
