After experimenting with exoskeletons, performance-enhancing drugs and AR glasses to create super-soldiers, the US military has decided to try a brain-stimulating "hood."

The army has allocated funding for a wearable device that analyzes how the brain gets rid of waste during sleep. For starters, the plan is to monitor and regulate the flow of cerebrospinal fluid as waste is flushed out of the brain. Magnetic resonance imaging equipment is currently being used to do this.

The system will be developed by researchers from Rice University, Houston Methodist Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. Ultimately, the team wants to create a headset that can treat sleep disorders in real time.

The final version of the device could combine multiple streams of data using machine learning software that will give doctors a real-time view of the brain clearing process. The team intends to have preliminary results of their project within a year.

The project could certainly help develop new treatments for brain diseases, as well as create killer cold-blooded soldiers.
