The Spanish government has decided to tackle the issue of cultural education for citizens turning 18.

What is known

Pedro Sanchez, prime minister of Spain, said that all citizens of the country will receive €400 when they reach the age of majority. The money will be spent on cinema and theatre visits, tickets for concerts, computer games and books.

It seems the payment will be a one-time event. There is no information about the programme's implementation, which means that it is not quite clear how the government will track where the €400 received will be spent.

Similar youth incentive programs are popular in France and Italy. Not all Spaniards are happy with the new government's initiative. Some even think this way the government wants to buy votes.

Approximately 455,000 Spaniards will turn 18 during 2022, meaning that about € 200 million will be allocated from the budget. The government also intends to finance the rental of citizens aged 18-35 years with an annual income of less than € €23 750 by paying them a monthly fee of €250.
