AMD's lead GPU developer Vineet Goel (Vineet Goel) joined Intel at the end of September. The processor giant officially confirmed the information and added that the specialist has assumed the position of vice president and general manager of the Xe Architecture and IP Engineering Group. Gowell reports directly to Raja Koduri, an AMD veteran who also moved to Intel and led GPU development for Intel graphics cards.

Intel also said that Gowell has led a team of specialists focused on architecture development, design and implementation validation of the Intel Xe roadmap. He will work on various functional elements of Intel's graphics processors, which are used for graphics processing and multimedia, as well as display output.

Gowell was previously corporate vice president of GPU architecture at AMD, where he led the team developing new technologies. His team has gone from concept to the final off-the-shelf solution in various segments - mobile devices, consoles and PCs. It was his team that worked on the graphics accelerator for AMD's new hybrid processors.

Gowell has 57 registered patents to his credit and another 90 pending at the US Patent and Trademark Office. His articles on computer graphics are regularly published in 15 academic journals and proceedings in computer science.
