Apple Music streaming service may be coming to PlayStation 5
Since its release on the PS5 console last November, Spotify has supported music streaming, allowing you to listen to your favorite music right as you play. However, the console may soon get support for another service: Apple Music.
The first hint came earlier this week, when a Reddit user posted a photo of an Apple Music icon appearing in the PS5 music menu. Apparently, the option appeared after the user created a new account and tried to link it to Spotify. However, the app doesn't seem to have worked - a Reddit user also shared a picture of the "This app is only available on PS4" message, which according to Eurogamer, is a standard error message when the app is not available.
The same publication reported that its reporters also managed to see the Apple Music option when creating a new account in the US, although it failed to play the music. The incorrect behavior of the Apple Music option suggests that Reddit user and Eurogamer may have received premature information that Sony and Apple are in development.
Both companies recently worked together on an Apple TV Plus promotion for PS5 owners, so there seems to be a connection between the two. Last year, Apple introduced Apple Music on Samsung smart TVs, showing that the company is ready to expand the service's availability beyond Apple's platforms. In addition, the app came just days before Apple's October 18 event, at which Apple and Sony could announce the release of the app on the PS5.
