Xiaomi has decided to fight against smartphone theft. To do so, it has started testing a special feature. Yes, the device will not electrocute, but thanks to the innovation thieves may be left with nothing.

What is known

Xiaomi smartphones have long had the Find Device feature, which allows you to find a lost device. But for it to work, the device itself needs to remain online. Accordingly, it becomes as useless as possible if a burglar decides to remove the SIM card.

This is the reason why Xiaomi took it upon itself to develop the new feature. When the SIM card is removed, the smartphone will ask for a password, picture key or fingerprint, and the Find Device feature will be automatically launched.

If the device is not unlocked within 30 seconds, an intruder will not be able to access data or use other smartphone functions. And resetting to factory settings will not help to solve the problem.

As always, Chinese users can be the first to test the new functionality. It appeared in the closed beta software MIUI 12.5 on October 14 (v21.10.14). Out of the box the new feature will be available in MIUI 13 firmware.
