Microsoft has added a feature to its Windows 11 operating system that allows Android apps to run.

What's known

Microsoft has been testing the Windows Subsystem for Android since October 20, 2021. For now, it's only available to OS preview participants.

Android software has been added to the Microsoft Store. Once installed, users can run Android apps side by side with Windows software. New apps will do everything you're used to doing, including moving or minimizing windows, pinning to taskbar and more.

Microsoft together with Amazon prepared about 50 applications for the participants of the Windows operating system preview program. Among them are mobile games, children's software, e-book reader software, and others. It should be noted that 600,000 applications were downloaded from Amazon Appstore and five times more from Google Play Market.

Windows Subsystem for Android runs on Linux kernel and Android 11 OS. It is not yet known when it will become available to all users. There is no information on how many total Android apps can be run on Windows 11 either.
