Historic achievement - HarmonyOS installed on 150 million devices
On October 22, the Huawei Developer Conference 2021 started in China. During the event the company boasted about the main achievement of the branded operating system HarmonyOS.
What is known
In the two years since its announcement, the OS has already been installed on more than 150 million devices, including Internet of Things gadgets, smartphones, tablets, smart watches and TVs. Moreover, by the end of the year Huawei plans to increase the number of devices up to 200 million units around the world. HarmonyOS has become the fastest growing operating system in history.
Of course, the main market is China. In China all of its current smartphones and tablets run on HarmonyOS 2.0. Things aren't quite as great with the global version. It's available in TVs, tablets and other appliances, but not in smartphones.
About HarmonyOS
We first heard about HarmonyOS in the summer of 2019, a few months after the first wave of US sanctions. The operating system was aimed at smart watches, car multimedia systems, TVs and a number of Internet of Things gadgets.
But Huawei had to refocus its software due to pressure from the US. As a result, HarmonyOS 2.0 appeared in 2020. The new version of the software, whose stable build was released last summer, is installed in more than a hundred Huawei and Honor smartphones and tablets that have been announced over the past five years.
