Telegram launches its own advertising platform: promises unobtrusive ads without the use of personal data
The messenger Telegram has announced the launch of its own advertising platform, which is already available at promote.telegram.org. However, for now the platform is working in test mode.
How it works In fact, Telegram channels and now have ads, but they are published by the channel owners themselves as regular messages. Pavel Durov on the other hand promises official advertising messages that will be more unobtrusive and more comfortable for users.
First, ads will not be displayed in chats, private conversations and groups - only in large channels, which already have ads. This applies to channels with an audience of 1000 subscribers and more. And ads will be selected according to channel topics. In addition, posts will be moderated.
Secondly, the announcement will be small (no more than 160 characters) and will contain only the text, no external links or photos. The ad may appear only after all new posts in channel are viewed.
Third, Telegram promises not to use users' personal data and preserve their privacy. This means that the content of advertisements will not depend on the user's own preferences - only on the topics of the channels. Also, Telegram does not track whether users click on an ad message.
For now, Telegram Ad Platform is operating in test mode, but in future, revenue from advertising is promised to be shared with channel owners.
