Facebook changed its name to Meta

 Today at augmented and virtual reality conference Facebook Connect Mark Zuckerberg announced the unexpected (or not at all) news about company name change.

What was changed and

So, now Facebook will be called differently - Meta. Let's stress right away that we are talking about company name change, not  social network Facebook. The company of the same name unites under its wing such projects as Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Workplace , etc.

The name is related to metaworld - the virtual world that the company is going to develop.

"The word Meta comes from Greek word meaning "after". To me it symbolizes the fact that you can always build something more. Today we are seen as a social networking company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the meta universe is the next frontier, just like social media when we first started", - explained Zuckerberg.

And the company's plans are big. "We hope that within the next decade, the meta universe will reach a billion people, generate hundreds of billions of dollars in digital commerce and support jobs for millions of creators and developers", - notes CEO Facebook Meta.

Also changed company logo and stock ticker - from FB to MVRS (effective December 1).
