AMD to release processor with 256 cores

AMD server processors may need up to 600W of power in a few years. This will be the maximum cTDP (Configurable Thermal Design Power) benchmark for Turin generation EPYC processors.

Turin processors will be based on the Zen 5 architecture and will likely be released in late 2023 or early 2024. AMD will integrate up to 256 cores/512 threads into them. Before Turin there should be another Milan-X - expected to premiere on November 8 this year, as well as Genoa processors based on Zen 4 architecture a year later.

As for the high power consumption, this is due to the large number of cores. Genoa, for example, will be available in configurations with 192 and 256 cores. In comparison, current EPYC models carry up to 64 cores on board, which means AMD will be increasing the number of cores over two generations. The TDP of the current EPYC processors is 280W.
