Study: Apple and Samsung smartphones depreciate less than others, while Huawei Mate 30 Pro loses 87% of its value in a year
British report online store of refurbished electronics musicMagpie has published an interesting report on how fast smartphones of different manufacturers depreciate. The bottom line is how much of its value the gadget will lose in one year and two years after purchase.
How much are we
losing?Expectedly, Apple and Samsung have become the companies whose devices depreciate the least in the first 12 months. On average, Apple devices lose 41% of their value in a year and 60% in 24 months. For Samsung these numbers are slightly higher - 64% and 77%.
And there is nothing surprising about this as their phones have a higher value. According to predictions, the iPhones of the last two years will retain more than half of their price in the first 12 months.
followed by OnePlus, whose smartphones lose 69% and 78% of their value after one and two years, respectively. But Huawei is doing much worse. For example, Huawei Mate 30 Pro depreciates by as much as 87% in one year, and Huawei P20 - by 84%. Apparently, US sanctions and lack of Google services in the international market had an impact.
Also the report states that the average UK consumer changes their phone every 16 months, and it costs them about 50% of the cost of their old phone.
