Tesla allowed electric vehicles of all types to charge at Supercharger stations
Earlier this week, Tesla launched a pilot project in the Netherlands that allows Supercharger stations to be used to charge the batteries of other manufacturers' electric vehicles. This is the first time a manufacturer of any electric vehicle has opened its own charging stations for other companies' electric vehicles.
Initially, only ten Supercharger stations will be available for third-party electric vehicles. Their owners will need to download the latest version of Tesla's smartphone app to be able to charge their vehicles at Supercharger stations. Once the app is launched, users will also be able to see the "Charge a non-Tesla EV" option, which can be used to find the nearest charging station participating in this pilot project.
Choosing the Netherlands as the starting point for this pilot project makes perfect sense. Ilon Musk stated some time ago that the experiment will probably start in Europe, where connectors for charging cables are standardized. After the Netherlands, other European countries are expected to join the project even before Tesla allows other brands of electric cars to charge at Supercharger stations in the US. The situation is different there, as connectors are more varied and adapters have to be used.
