Google stopped selling two popular smartphones

Back at the end of the summer, Google announced that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 were no longer in production. The manufacturer continued sales until all stocks were exhausted, and now the moment has come when all the smartphones were sold out.

What's known

Both models debuted in September 2020 and are almost indistinguishable both in terms of looks and tech. They feature a Snapdragon 765G processor, a 12.2 MP + 16 MP primary camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. The fifth-generation smartphone boasts of a higher battery capacity (4080mAh vs 3885mAh) and a 90Hz display.

Pixel 4a 5G was priced at $499, while the Pixel 5 could be bought for $699. Now, the US giant intends to focus on producing the Pixel 5a. It too is equipped with a 7-nanometer Snapdragon 765G single-chip system, but costs only $449.

Google can't continue producing all three models due to chip shortages. Therefore, the company decided to bet on the most affordable device and will redirect to its production all the available SoC Snapdragon 765G. By the way, the shortage of components is the main reason why Pixel 5a is sold only in the United States and Japan.

To conclude, let's add that there are only four smartphones left on Google's official website. In addition to the Pixel 5a and the sixth-generation new products, the company is selling the Pixel 4a. The model is equipped with Snapdragon 730G chip and was introduced in August 2020. It is priced from $349, but the smartphone is not yet available in stock.
