Chinese company Xiaomi has decided to fight the overheating of modern mobile processors with its own methods and introduced the Loop LiquidCool technology.

Why

The issue of efficient cooling has long been one of the main challenges for smartphone manufacturers. The problem sharply escalated when Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 888 chip. To prevent overheating and trotting, some companies even intentionally lowered the SoC's frequencies for simple tasks.

So far, there's no indication that future Snapdragon flagship chips won't suffer from the same problem, so Xiaomi has played ahead and announced Loop LiquidCool liquid cooling technology.

How it works

The new system includes an evaporator, condenser, compensation cavity and two vapor-liquid tubes. The evaporator in the smartphones will be installed next to the motherboard. When heat is released during heavy loads, a capillary effect attracts a cold liquid, which cools the iron. After evaporation, the heat is distributed to the cold zone of the loop channel, where it remains until condensation.

According to the manufacturer, the new technology has proven to be twice as efficient as traditional cooling systems that use steam chambers. Moreover, Xiaomi called Loop LiquidCool the best smartphone cooling system available.

Its efficiency is improved precisely by the new form factor, although the method used is the same as in the VC liquid cooling systems. The latter don't boast the ability to separate steam and liquid, so they mix together.

Loop LiquidCool tested on a modified smartphone Xiaomi MIX 4. The manufacturer claims that for 30 minutes Genshin Impact with a frame rate of 60 FPS and maximum graphics settings heating did not exceed 47.7º. At the same time, the temperature of the Snapdragon 888+ single-chip system was 8.6º lower compared to the chip temperature in the standard version of the smartphone.

When to expect

The company said that the new technology will not appear in its devices until the second half of next year. It is likely to debut in the next-generation Xiaomi MIX. The Xiaomi 13 is also scheduled to be announced during this period.

Thus, we won't see the Loop LiquidCool in the Xiaomi 12, which will debut next month, nor in the more advanced Ultra version. It is expected to debut in the spring.
