"The Squid Game" will have a second season, it's in the "planning stages" right now
The first season finale of The Squid Game left a loophole for a sequel, and the financials were quite impressive. Therefore, the appearance of a second season of the South Korean division was a matter of time. And the issue, that one appears to have been resolved.
The Associated Press tweeted a short excerpt of an interview with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who confirms that a second season is in development. "I will say that the second season will indeed happen," Dong-hyuk tells the AP news agency while standing next to Lee Joon-jae, the actor who plays "Squid Game" main character Gi Hoon. "It's already in my head. I'm in the planning process right now."
It's no surprise that Netflix gave the series the green light for a second season, considering it became the most-watched series on the platform at launch, garnering 111 million viewers in just 17 days. "Squid Game" was such a hit that Netflix even added three more Don Hyuk-directed movies to its catalog.
Although Dong-hyuk said it's "too early" to determine when and how the second season will be released, he gave us a little hint of what's in store for us, "I promise you the following: Gi Hoon will be back - he will do something for the world." What a hero with such cheesy morals and inadequate motivation can follow for the world, we are left to wonder.
