"Digital Legacy": In iOS 15.2 beta, Apple adds Digital Legacy feature to bequeath its data in the event of death
The other day Apple released the second public beta version of the iOS 15.2 update, which added the Digital Legacy feature.
What is it?
Literally, it's a feature "Digital Legacy", introduced in June at the developer conference WWDC21. It allows you to bequeath data from your gadgets in the event of your death.
Now it is difficult for relatives of deceased iPhone users to unlock the device and access their data. The thing is that the deceased person's information is considered confidential and not disclosed. In this neither death certificate nor court order with confirmation of inheritance right will help.
Digital Legacy is designed to solve this problem. Any user can select 5 trusted contacts who will inherit access to iCloud account where all data including photos, videos, documents etc are stored. They will need to show Apple proof of death and access key.
The Digital Legacy feature will be available on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
