With the release of Windows 11, Microsoft did away with the blue screen of death. The Screen of Death remained, but became black. However, a few months after the operating system's premiere, the blue color is returning.

Blue Screen of Death with a sad smiley face appeared in Windows 8. In Windows 11, the blue screen of death will return in build 22000.246, which is now available in the Release Preview and Windows Insider channels. No release date for the update has been specified yet.

Recall that since 2012, when the sad emoji appeared when a critical error occurred, the death screen has only changed twice. The first was in 2016. At that time, a QR code was added. The second time was in 2021, when the blue color was changed to black, leaving the content unchanged.
