Microsoft has come up with another clever way to get users to upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft has always been extremely active in forcing users to update their operating system to the latest version, and the period after the announcement of Windows 11 was no exception. But now the software giant has taken some pretty drastic measures.

What happened

Windows 10 for Arm processors has been testing x64 application emulation for a year that could run in this operating system environment, but now it has become clear that Windows 10 for Arm processors will not get this functionality. Microsoft has announced this without explanation, making it clear that this feature will become available and will continue to be tested in Windows OS 11.

As you can understand from the name, Windows for Arm processors is specifically designed for computing devices that use chips with this architecture. But almost all of today's software is designed for x64 architectures, and without emulation these programs cannot run on devices with Arm processors.

What to expect

So far, the segment of Arm computers running Windows is not very developed, but after the incredible success of Apple's Mac computers, which use Arm chips, competitors are quickly preparing their own similar solutions.

It's clear that mass notebook and desktop makers will switch to Arm architecture faster than most developers adapt their apps to it. And since it will only be possible to run such non-adapted applications under Windows 11, users will simply have no choice.
