Snapdragon 8 Gen1 introduced: Qualcomm's new flagship 4nm chip
Qualcomm unveiled its new flagship processor at the Snapdragon Tech Summit.
What is known
The leaks were confirmed. The chip was named Snapdragon 8 Gen1. It is built according to 4-nanometer technical process and boasts architecture ARMv9. SoC equipped with a core Cortex-X2 with a clock frequency of 3.0 GHz. In addition, he received three more cores. Cortex-A710 at 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A510 at 1.8 GHz. Thanks to this arrangement, the performance is increased by 20% compared to the Snapdragon 888, while the power consumption is reduced by 30%.
In terms of graphics, the new Adreno accelerator promises a performance boost of 30% and 25% less power consumption. Also Snapdragon 8 Gen1 received proprietary Elite Gaming technology with three new features. One of them allows developers to find a balance between performance and energy efficiency.
Other specs of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 include built-in 5G modem X65 5G with 10Gbps peak speed, support Wi-Fi 6 / 6E, QHD + screens up to 144Hz, LPDDR5 memory, a new ISP sensor for image processing, AptX Lossless codec, Quick Charge 5 fast charging and an improved AI engine, which is responsible for the AI function.
When to expect
Qualcomm has already launched mass production of the new chip. The first smartphones based on it will appear in December.
