Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8cx Gen3: 5nm processor for ARM Windows laptops
After Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and Snapdragon G3x Gen1Qualcomm has announced another new product at the Snapdragon Tech Summit - the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3.
What a chip
This is a 5nm processor that is designed for next generation ARM notebooks with Windows operating system on board. The chip is the successor to last year's Snapdragon 8cx Gen2. According to the manufacturer, the new product has 85% improved core performance and 60% better graphics. The SoC supports 5G Snapdragon X55, X62 and X65 modems. The maximum download speed can be up to 10Gbps.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 is equipped with a new ISP-module, which is responsible for the camera. It received autofocus, improved automatic white balance and support for cameras with a resolution of up to 24 MP. Thanks to the new ISP, cameras in laptops powered by Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 will be able to record 4K HDR video at 30fps. The chip also received support for UFS 3.1 memory, as well as many proprietary technologies for improving graphics, sound, etc.
When to expect
The first Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 laptops will hit the market in the first half of 2022.
