Hackers hacked BitMart and stole almost $ 150 million - the exchange promises to compensate for the damage
As a result of the hacking of the BitMart cryptocurrency exchange, hackers managed to get hold of digital coins in the amount of about $ 150 million.
What is known
The hack was reported by PeckShield. Cybersecurity experts discovered that on December 4, attackers were able to withdraw about $ 100,000,000 from the Ethereum network. Then it became known about the withdrawal of almost $ 96,000,000 through the Binance Smart Chain.
According to PeckShield's calculations, the exchange lost $ 196 million. In total, almost three dozen different digital currencies were stolen, including Binance Coin and prank tokens like Baby Doge Inu, Floki Inu and Moonshot. The funds were converted to Ethereum and withdrawn through a 1 inch exchanger, and hackers passed them through Tornado Cash to disguise them.
BitMart representatives did not immediately acknowledge the fact of the hacker attack. For some time, moderators on the exchange's Telegram channel called information about the theft of cryptocurrency fake. BitMart later confirmed the fact of the hack, but the damage was less - $ 150,000,000.
The company's CEO, Sheldon Xia, said the keys to the wallets where the exchange holds assets had been compromised. BitMart compensates investors for losses. The money will be paid from the personal funds of the exchange.
