SmartMi, Xiaomi Air Purifier Brand, Goes to Tackle Smart Cars
This year, Xiaomi managed to announce its entry into the car market, establish several car companies and schedule construction of a factory in Beijing... And now its sub-brand SmartMi intends to engage in the production of cars.
What does it mean?
SmartMi subsidiary brand plans to start making machines in-house, according to a recent report. This information raises doubts, since the SmartMi sub-brand, better known in China as Zhimi Technology, is engaged in the production of household appliances for the smart home, in particular air purifiers.
But it looks like the company is serious about entering the car market - sources say it is already in contact with a number of car design firms to develop its first model. It may also have to partner with a well-known automotive brand, as this market is a rather difficult segment to successfully enter, not to mention the problems and huge investments required for mass production.
Rumor has it that the first SmartMi will be an SUV. As for Xiaomi, it may be in some degree will help its sub-brand, but the automotive divisions of both companies will operate independently of each other.
By the way, representatives of SmartMi have not yet commented on this information.
